Rough, bulky, and energy-intensive—does your impression of traditional manufacturing still linger at this stage?
In the Advanced Manufacturing Development Zone of Queshan County, there’s an automotive parts manufacturer whose “beautiful green scenery” hidden within the factory not only enables wheels to “fly” but also propels green manufacturing into the spotlight.
On September 16, stepping into the national-level green factory—Henan Valiant Braking System Corporation (hereinafter referred to as: HJZD)—we saw visible greenery and invisible "greenness" everywhere.
The entire factory area is surrounded by lush greenery, and the roads are clean and well-maintained. On the rooftops of the factory buildings, rows of neatly arranged photovoltaic panels gleam brilliantly under the sunlight. “In our park planning, we don’t just simply plant trees—we aim to make ecology a partner in production,” said Zhou Ligang, Chairman of HJZD, pointing to the solar photovoltaic panels on the workshop roof. “Greening is merely superficial; carbon reduction is the real essence.”

To achieve self-sufficiency in "green energy," the company has built a 4.8-megawatt rooftop photovoltaic project on the roofs of its existing factory buildings. The project generates over 4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to saving 490 tons of standard coal each year and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 3,000 tons.
Stepping into the workshop, although not a single light was turned on, it was remarkably bright. “The factory building is part of our energy-saving renovation. Natural light streams in directly through the daylighting channels on the roof of the factory, helping us save energy and reduce consumption!” Gao Chao, Deputy General Manager of HJZD, has witnessed the transformation journey of this national-level green factory.
In his view, a green factory should not only have a “green” and low-carbon “exterior,” but also boast a high “green content” internally. Introducing advanced green technologies and equipment is the starting point for HJZD’s products to turn “green.” Looking around the factory grounds, each workshop has large “blue boxes” and “blue columns” hanging outside. “These are all environmental protection devices—just for our high-efficiency dust removal equipment alone, we’ve installed 10 units. After collecting and filtering the dust, the PM emission levels are far below the emission standards set for other industries. We also have five sets of VOC gas collection and treatment equipment, which employ catalytic combustion plus activated carbon adsorption technology, achieving a VOC removal efficiency of over 95%,” said Gao Chao. With these environmental protection devices in place, each production process has effectively reduced dust emissions during manufacturing.

Green concepts are also integrated into product development. The bimetallic composite brake drum, a “flagship product” developed by HJZD, is a domestic first-of-its-kind innovation boasting advantages such as crack resistance, lightweight design, and long service life. It completely addresses the “bottleneck” issues plaguing traditional products, breaking the technological monopoly held by foreign companies, and is now selling briskly both domestically and internationally.
“Bimetallic composite brake drums are not only technologically advanced but also brimming with ‘green’ elements,” Gao Chao explained. In the production process of bimetallic composite brake drums, highly polluting and energy-intensive steps such as sand mixing, molding, core making, and sand removal—typical in conventional brake drum manufacturing—are eliminated. As a result, the production process is more environmentally friendly and significantly more energy-efficient and emission-reducing. Each year, this approach can save 30,000 tons of non-renewable resources and reduce pollutant emissions by more than 30,000 tons.

The same green transformation is also woven into numerous stages of HJZD’s production line. “For example,” he continued, “we’ve switched from the original weight-increasing dynamic balancing process for brake drums to a weight-removal dynamic balancing method, saving over 800 tons of steel annually. Previously, we used wooden pallets for brake drum packaging, but now we’ve switched to iron pallets that can be recycled, reducing wood consumption and improving resource utilization efficiency. We’re gradually replacing oil-based paints with water-based paints; by the end of 2024, the proportion of water-based paints used will have risen to nearly 50%, and we expect this year’s share of water-based paints to exceed 60%…” Gao Chao spoke enthusiastically about HJZD’s ingenious energy-saving and carbon-reduction strategies, his words brimming with pride.

Data shows that in recent years, HJZD has invested over 20 million yuan in green transformation. Gao Chao said that these green investments have not only reduced energy consumption and saved costs, but also boosted product quality. “Our core product—the steel-composite brake drum—holds a market share of over 60% in China and currently ranks first globally in both production and sales. To further expand capacity and seize market opportunities, the company is building Phase II in stages, and is expected to achieve sales revenue of 800 million yuan by 2026.”
“Fancy Green-Protecting Methods”:
By phasing out outdated technologies, we save 30,000 tons of non-renewable resources annually and reduce pollutant emissions by more than 30,000 tons. We have built our own rooftop photovoltaic power station, harnessing over 4 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy each year. All production waste is fully recycled and remelted for reuse, achieving a comprehensive utilization rate of 100%. We employ a closed-loop, high-efficiency dust removal system that captures and filters dust particles, with PM emission levels significantly lower than the national standards... These aren't just cold numbers—they're the real-time pulse of Henan Hengjiu Machinery's green vitality.
